Date Night Hair

I'm  a simple kind of person. I rarely curl my hair or do anything fancy to it. And honestly, my hair loves me for it. My hair thrives off low manipulation. Sometimes I forget to comb it...don't judge me.

But I had to do something special for date night with the hubs. So I dusted off my curling iron and got to curling. I loved the change and how it really dressed me up. I usually wear my hair down and straight or in a twist out so this was a nice change from the norm.

I watched this video tutorial and though mine didn't turn out exactly like that, I still loved it.

I need some ideas for my next date night. What style do you wear for date night?

Hair Today

Today was spent by the pool with the littles so I took it low maintenance. I tend to not wear many ponytails because my hair breaks pretty easily when it's pulled up like this. But honestly, there's nothing like a ponytail.

What style you rockin' today?

Doing Hair - Kids Edition

Last week we were on the beach, enjoying the clearwater and white sand.

This week, we're battling the tangles.

Tangled left side. One big matted ponytail
It's my fault. I wanted to enjoy my vacay and not fight a toddler who didn't want to get her hair done. So for one whole week, I didn't touch her hair. Through the salt water and sand, through bedtime with no bonnet and baths where every single strand of hair got soaked. I knew I was going to have a disaster on my hands at the end of our vacation, but I figured I'd worry about it later.

Well, later was today when I had a marathon session with my baby girl. It took me about an hour and a half to dentangle her hair. I worked in small sections, drenching her hair with a mixture of conditioner and water. I used my fingers to detangle because the mattes were so bad. I'm ashamed of myself. After her hair was detangled, I saturated her hair with a deep conditioner and covered with a cap.

I used this to deep condition with. It's my first time using this so after I use it for awhile longer, I'll post about how I like it (or don't like it).

I washed her hair with Hello Hydration Shampoo, which is my go to. The slip on that stuff is amazing. Ahh, freshly washed hair.

It's almost impossible to get a good picture of a moving toddler
After too many breaks to count, I finished her hair. It's not my best work but both of us were happy to be done.

Gotta unpack that suitcase...
I learned a valuable lesson this past week. I can't ignore my girl's hair. With my relaxed hair, it's easy to go a few days without doing anything major to it, but natural hair is a whole other story. I'm still learning.

I wanted to relax and enjoy my vacation, but my baby girl's hair suffered for it. I put twists in my older girls hair so they could enjoy swimming and playing without getting their hair done every day. Maybe it's time to give baby girl some twists.

How do you handle your kids hair on vacation?

Bunning It

I've spent the last two weeks bunning it. I'm six months post and go in for my relaxer and trim tomorrow. How I manage my hair this late in the game with all my new growth and relaxed hair fighting each other is lots of moisture. One thing I was reminded of when I had some crazy tangling was not to forget the protein. It's super important to add that strength to your hair when you're stretching for a long period of time. It's all about the balance.

Hair Today

I've been rocking a bun for the better part of two weeks.

Finally let it down to breathe before washing.

Wash regimen to follow.

The Pony

This week I have been rocking the pony. It's easy, low manipulation and did I mention easy? I've decided to stretch the flat iron as long as I possibly can to limit the amount of heat I use. Wash and deep condition will be this weekend.

Flat no more

11:07a

Every time I see this blog post and this picture of my flat ponytail, I cringe. The whole reason that I decided to texlax in the first place was to thicken my hair so that flat hair would no longer be an issue for me.

Having bone straight relaxed hair, I always struggled with having body and always had an issue of thin hair right after a relaxer.

Finally being almost fully texlaxed, I have that problem no more. Evidence below.

My airdried pony tail that is full of body and life!

Both pony tails were airdried, but this one has so much more body and girth. I love it. Any doubts I had about continuing to texlax are gone. It does take more effort than bone straight hair, but the results are so worth it.

Hair Today: Twist out Bun

4:56p

I'm loving the twist outs. They are super easy and it doesn't require any heat because I twist on partially air dried hair. I forgot to use a cream based leave-in for more twist definition (I only used EQP H2 Leave in). I love the texture and the immediate interest and volume it adds to my hair. I haven't perfected my method by any means and my ends don't come out the best, which is why I wear it pinned up most of the time. Which I don't really see as a problem because it is a protective style.

Hair pulled back into a low pony and secured into a bun

Hair Today: Flat twist out worn...out

4:53p

This was day 6 of my flat twist out. This was the first time that I actually wore it out.

Twists weren't as well defined at this point. I still liked wearing my hair out.

Hair Today: My Southern Tease

4:48p

This was Day 5 for my flat twist out. It was getting a little loose because I wasn't retwisting everynight. This day I decided to wear it pulled back into a southern tease bun (my own version)

Hair Today: Flat Twist Day 3

4:19p

Top shot - looks a little lumpy here

pinned up in the back

I spent the night watching The Princess and the Frog with my two princesses so I was too tired to retwist my hair last night. I divided it in half and pin curled the ends and covered with a scarf. For styling this morning, I finger combed and added some LTR to my edges and finished my whole head off with coconut oil. I pinned it up in the back and was on my way. I do plan on retwisting tonight.

For some reason I'm loving the center part. I've never been able to wear one, but with my hair like this it looks pretty good. I think I'll keep redoing the flat twists every night this week. It's pretty fast and simple. And the more I do it, the better and tighter my twists get which equals a better twist out!

Bantu Knot Out - Day 2

9:39a

Right side gone a little awry with the winter weather

I reknotted my hair last night and I must say that I am loving this look. The right side took a bit of a beating since I had a hat on to guard myself aganist the 8-12 INCHES OF SNOW they have forcasted for today and tomorrow. On top of the 73 inches we have already had this winter.

Wait...what was I talking about? Oh yes, the bantu knot out.

I've been moisturizing like crazy and I think my hair is thanking me. It looks extremely quenched and healthy. I have to make sure to pay special attention to my edges and my ends. Those tend to be my trouble spots.

Bantu Knot Out

2:06p

Bantu Knot Out

Last night I decided to give my limp flat ironed hair some interest and body with bantu knots. I only did four, dividing my hair into quadrants and securing the knot with a bobby pin. I moisturized really well and am seeing the benefits of that moisture today. I have been neglecting my edges so I made sure to really give them a nice drink of moisture and sealed with castor oil.

Love the curls. Will be reknotting tonight to preserve the style and most likely will pin up since rain/snow is in the forecast.

Doin' the Bump

I was playing around with ponytails and I decided to try doing a slight bump in the front. I don't normally do anything but a slicked back pony for fear that anything ontop of my head will draw attention to my Tyra-esque forehead.

I wasn't brave enough to wear this outside my bathroom.

Any thoughts on the bump?
